“GET A HOBBY!!”…Those are the words that stuck with me after a particularly nasty argument with my husband. It was the kind of argument you wonder how you’ll ever recover from; the kind that leaves you feeling shame and embarrassment for still behaving like that at 48 years old. Anyway, he was right, so here I am.
I enthusiastically said yes when my cousin asked me to start a blog with her. (I needed a hobby) We are both knocking on the door of 50 and both finally trying to shed the weight our parents placed on our shoulders the moment we entered this world. Healing is the most monstrous roller coaster you can imagine; only once you strap in, you realize you can’t get off. It’s not a three minute thrill ride. It’s years of ups and downs, sharp turns, dark tunnels and feelings of fear, nausea, and sometimes joy.
We hope you’ll strap in this crazy ride and join us. If you aren’t ready to ride yet, that’s okay. You can sit safely on a bench nearby and whisper to yourself, “Wow! Those two are fucked up!” If you can’t laugh at childhood trauma and lives built from co-dependency and alcoholism, maybe this isn’t the place for you. If you can, then welcome! After all, you can’t make this shit up!!
